Abstract

This article aims to approach, from theory and social practice, the taboo that exists around the female sex and weight-lifting sport. To do so, an approach is made to the origin and conception of this sport, as well as to the way in which women are accepted by society as practitioners of the same. The approach to this social praxis required the use of interviews and observation, as reliable research methods, which made it possible to verify the manifestation of this phenomenon today. This work shows that the interest of women in sport is not an impediment, much less a cause of an inferiority complex.
