Abstract

This article presents a critical evaluation of Jürgen Habermas' theory of communicative rationality. Starting from a conceptual approach of the category rationality, due to the polysemy of the term, the habermasian critique of modern instrumental rationality is analyzed. His theory of rationality of communicative type ponders intersubjectivity on a subjective rationality concentrated in an individual conscience, which propitiates the transfer of communication from the level of action to that of discourse. In communicative action the subjects are not oriented towards their own success, but towards understanding. Although this conception is possible from the communicative theory, it is improbable in a medium and short term, as long as the existing powers have the necessary resources to prevent it.
