Abstract

This investigation discusses a methodological procedure to favor the process of reading and to give treatment to reading skills in the English language, through the analysis of texts, methods, materials, techniques and procedures. Its relevance lies in the demands of the current teaching practice in High Schools, where the development of reading skills constitutes a means for an end though frequently neglected. It comes necessary then to face the process of teaching reading comprehension skills from the methodological training of the teachers focused on the dynamics of the process, on the selection of the texts and of activities, as well as on the procedures to teach reading skills performed by the teacher, to achieve the communicative competence, as the final goal of subject and this way increasing the students’ general culture. Methods at theoretical level were used as well as other techniques and procedures at empirical level to support the proposal from the perspective of the different sciences that are assumed, to characterize the sample, to select the indicators and their categories, to elaborate the proposal and to validate both its viability and feasibility.
