Abstract

The insertion of the Pedagogy Psychology career in the pedagogical universities constitutes an expeditious manifestation of the development of psycho-pedagogy in Cuba. In this sense, in this article a characterization of the development of the initial training of Cuban psycho-pedagogues is carried out, in order to determine their regularities and contemporary challenges. As a theoretical study, the historical-logical method was applied, in which the chronology of the facts was complemented with its logical peculiarities, from the previous determination of concrete indicators that allowed to organize the analysis as: the antecedents in Cuba, the context social, historical and political of its emergence and evolution, the essential contents of the curricula with their progressive modifications, the predominant theoretical approaches and the professional profile of the educational psychologist. Within the regularities identified are the predominance of psychology of Marxist orientation in the beginning and evolution of the career in the plans and programs of study, the progressive enrichment with other contemporary approaches of the world psycho-pedagogy, the evident contradiction between the practice and Psycho-pedagogical research and the survival of curricular designs that do not explicitly reflect said integration. This becomes one of the current challenges to raise the quality in the training of said professional.
