Abstract

Malaria infection during pregnancy is a major health problem in most tropical regions of the world, including Western countries, as more and more infected women migrate from non-endemic areas and may become pregnant in the country. During pregnancy, it can have a significant impact on both the mother and the foetus. Early diagnosis and multidisciplinary management are needed. We present the clinical case of a pregnant woman who arrived at the Hospital Central Aires de Meneses in Sao Tome and Principe, who in the 34th week debuted with an acute, very serious, crisis of cerebral malaria (plasmodium falciparum) that required admission to the Intensive Care Unit, subsequently a cesarean section had to be performed.
