Abstract

Sleep apnea is a syndrome whose main feature is the cessation of breathing for ten seconds or more while we sleep. Respiratory disorders such as snoring, alveolar hypo-ventilation and obstructive sleep apnea are common among obese patients. In this sense, obstructive apnea occurs when there is a respiratory effort because the airways are closed. To diagnose obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, more than 5 events per hour of sleep must occur. The main symptoms are when someone experiences daytime sleepiness, feels like they are choking while sleeping, wakes up repeatedly, when sleep was not restful, there is fatigue during the day or concentration deteriorates. This important aspect for human health will be discussed in this article.
