History, culture and politics: a perspective for the analysis of racial discrimination in the Cuban context
Keywords:
race, history, culture, politics, and racial discriminationAbstract
Racial discrimination is one of the problems that significantly affects social welfare and therefore the full development of man. The transformations undertaken in Cuba with the 1959 Revolution to put an end to this form of discrimination still face limitations; given among other causes by the historical-cultural heritage of racism that still subsists, not only in subjectivity but also in social practice. Even though in the last decades in Cuba the studies on racial problems and discrimination have grown significantly, the integrative approach between scientific research, politics and daily practice is still limited. This article proposes a historical, cultural and political analysis as a perspective to contribute from a critical and reflexive approach to the formation of a racial culture based on true equity and to put an end to the surviving manifestations of discrimination.
