Abstract

Mortality is a demographic indicator that is measured as a rate and reflects the health status of the population. It indicates the number of deaths per 100,000 inhabitants. At the same time, it is a reflection of government policies towards public health and the efforts of health personnel. Surgical activity is measured by indicators, one of which is mortality. This article aims: to characterize surgical mortality in patients who died in the general surgery service of the General Teaching Hospital "Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna", Las Tunas, in the years 2019- 2020. For this purpose, a descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in the surgery service of the Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna hospital and during the referred period of time. The universe consisted of 87 deceased patients who had undergone surgery. The following were evaluated: age, sex, personal pathological history, nosological entities, surgical interventions, complications.
