Abstract

This article shows a project developed with the objective of remodeling and increasing the areas of recreation, health and housing through the design of adequate spaces. It is worth noting that, in order to obtain relevant information regarding the guidelines for inclusive design, several theories corresponding to gerontological centers, inclusive architecture and universal design were analyzed in a general manner, as well as a quantitative, descriptive research was carried out. It allowed gathering information corresponding to the perceptions and opinions of those involved. Regarding to the population, the application of surveys aimed at employees of the Gerontological Center and the relatives of daytime patients was considered. The results obtained from the field work showed that the Gerontological Center needs changes, mainly in terms of safety, in recreational spaces and in the residential area. Based on the information obtained, the proposal includes improvement guidelines and area plans designed based on the Technical Standards for the Elderly Population.
