Abstract

The difficulties of the 7th grade students of the Kwanza Norte province in Angola regarding the calculation with rational numbers motivated the realization of this study. This was done with the aim of knowing the causes that adversely affect the detected problem. It was carried out under the structure of a design supported by the Didactic Engineering, the application of techniques and instruments of this methodology combined with a case study, which allowed to fulfill the proposed objective and determine the most influential causes that affect learning of the students. The work developed allowed to conclude that the objectives of the Mathematics program at the referred level, with respect to the learning of the rational numbers, are not met with all the required quality, and the most influential causes, among others, that affect the learning process they are: large number of students in each school group, lack of methodological actions supported by scientific conceptions for learning and the limited use of technologies.
