The development of competencies intellectuals in college students and its impact on the quality of the learning

Abstract

The Ministry of Education in Ecuador, in order to favor the predominant international tendencies, together with the vertiginous advance of science and technology, demands in its impositions, the professional training based on competences, interdisciplinarity and autonomous work of the student. This is one of the integral elements of current university curricula. Therefore, it is essential to redesign these curricula, study plans, pedagogical and evaluative strategies. In this sense, the present article exposes the importance of developing intellectual competences in students of higher education, since this influences the quality of learning, their professional performance, as well as life in society. With this objective, the relevance of the holistic approach for the acquisition of said competences is shown, in which the development of intellectual skills and their specific objectives are distinguished. All this in order to prepare the student comprehensively for life and temper the educational context to the current society.
