Historical study on the trajectory of the Instituto Preuniversitario Urbano Luis Urquiza Jorge from 1971 to 1985

Abstract

The Luis Urquiza Jorge Urban Pre-University Institute was the first center of its kind in the province of Las Tunas. Due to its importance for the history of higher secondary education in this territory, this article is based on the idea that analyzing its historical evolution contributes to the process of formation of a local educational identity in the teachers and students of Las Tunas and enriches the existing knowledge about the different stages of pre-university education in the territory. In order to fulfill the objective, we elucidated elements related to its establishment, impact and transcendence. For this purpose, primary sources were consulted, such as documents, photos, videos, testimonies belonging to students and professors of the school, as well as secondary sources integrated by newspaper articles on personalities and moments of the evolution of this pre-university. Criticism was applied to the data extracted, which allowed corroborating the inaccuracy of some and the certainty of others. In addition, the historical-logical method was used, as well as analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction.
