Television and YouTube as proposals to strengthen the educational process

Abstract

Television, with its development and access to it via the Internet, has become one of the most popular mass media in society. Given its audiovisual nature and flexibility, it constitutes a favorable resource to be used in educational contexts. As a support for teaching, it could complement verbal explanations to facilitate comprehension, stimulate interest and increase motivation. The objective of the research was to learn about the use of this medium at the Universidad Estatal del Sur de Manabí in Ecuador. For this purpose, the criteria of a sample of 86 students and 25 teachers were collected through a survey. The study was developed under an exploratory-descriptive quantitative approach. The main results indicate that all of them consider the educational programs to be very instructive and recognize the benefits that the creation of a channel in this center of higher studies with the transmission of academic content specific to their curriculum would bring. It is concluded that actions should be planned in this sense, including a YouTube channel to achieve greater visibility and dissemination, as well as the use of the audiovisual media available on this social network in the classroom.
