Abstract

The international educational community recognizes that the professional development of teachers is fundamental to improving the quality of processes implemented in educational institutions. Leveraging digital technologies is one of the main avenues for the personal and professional growth of teachers. In response to this demand, a Digital Competence Framework for Teachers project was implemented for the Cuban National Education System. The objective of this article is to present the proposed Professional Development dimension corresponding to this competency. The proposal is based on the triangulation of several procedures, including a bibliographic study of the characteristics and dimensions of Professional Development for Teachers, a comparative study on the integration of professional development into the Digital Competence Frameworks for Teachers used as references in the project, the collective construction of knowledge, and consultation with experts and specialists. The result was a proposal for the knowledge, areas, and learning outcomes of the Professional Development dimension. The high level of acceptance of the proposal by the experts consulted demonstrates its value in guiding the development of digital competencies among practicing teachers in the Cuban National Education System.
