Abstract

Violence against women is a problem that shows alarming figures worldwide, and our continent is particularly vulnerable, materializing in most cases in the crime of injury. While it is true that there is a policy in our country that aims to criminalize and eradicate it, it is still little studied. Violence against women encompasses a series of attacks whose common denominator is none other than the presence of a passive female subject who is the object of mistreatment because she belongs to that gender and whose aggressor is characterized by belonging to the opposite gender. It is therefore necessary to emphasize that not any violence against a woman is gender-based violence, but only that which is perpetrated against a person because she belongs to the female gender. With the aim of delving deeper into the problem of gender violence, a retrospective longitudinal descriptive study was carried out in the Legal Medicine Department of the "Dr. Ernesto Guevara de la Serna" Provincial General Teaching Hospital in Las Tunas province, continuing the line of research on violence against women.
