The use of the communicative approach in the English language improvement courses at the Baraguá Municipal University Branch

Abstract

This article proposes workshops on English language learning with a communicative approach and its impact on the development of postgraduate courses in the municipality of Baraguá. From the diagnosis carried out on the application of this approach in this territory, it was found that there is a limited use of this approach in the courses taught, as well as little idiomatic practice due to the insufficient mastery of lexical and grammatical structures. For this purpose, preparation actions were carried out as part of the social task of the Municipal University Branch. Documentary analysis, observation, surveys, interviews were used as essential methods, which allowed determining strengths and weaknesses in language learning with emphasis on the postgraduate courses taught by our branch. With the implementation of the actions, it was possible to raise the level of preparation of the teachers who directly carry out this activity for an accurate use of the foreign language and it constituted a valuable work and feedback instrument for the postgraduate education strategy of the municipality.
