Abstract

School dropout among high school students in rural communities has been little analyzed and there is a need to delve deeper into the reasons why they abandon their studies or are at risk of doing so. The purpose of this study was to learn about the students' perception of their school situation and the causes that put them at risk of dropping out of school. The type of study was qualitative with the participation of 6 students at risk of dropping out who study at the Bachillerato Integral Comunitario through semi-structured interviews. The results obtained show that academic problems affect the students' learning and at the same time they depend on the economic solvency of their parents to be able to study virtually during the current health contingency, and it is concluded that a personalized follow-up of the students is necessary considering their socio-cultural, economic and educational context through an educational diagnosis from the institution to provide strategies and motivational alternatives for both parents and children.
