Abstract

The article describes the results of research carried out at the University of Guayaquil with the aim of proposing improvements in the teaching-learning process of the English language in the Administrative Sciences faculty. Aspects such as the level of management of the Languages department, the treatment given to the content of the texts in the modules in relation to the hourly load, the essence of the English courses given in the faculty, the level of knowledge of the content shown by the teachers in the classes, the knowledge of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, the effectiveness of the current model of English language teaching in the Languages department, among others, were evaluated. Training alternatives are proposed on the basis of the shortcomings that students have in relation to effective English language learning, based on a programme with specific aims, according to the career and professional profile.
