Impact of Artificial Intelligence on self-directed learning in higher education
Keywords:

Artificial intelligence has transformed higher education, particularly in self-directed learning, where tools such as intelligent tutors, chatbots, and adaptive systems allow for personalized learning and optimized student autonomy. However, its implementation presents ethical, technical, and pedagogical challenges. The objective of this article is to highlight the impact of the implementation of artificial intelligence on self-directed learning in higher education. To this end, a systematic review was conducted of 54 studies selected from databases such as Science Direct, Emerald, and Google Scholar, which evaluated the impact of the implementation of artificial intelligence on self-directed learning in higher education. Among the results, it can be mentioned that AI improves learning efficiency and promotes self-regulated learning strategies. However, risks such as technological dependence, loss of critical thinking, and equity gaps were identified. AI is a promising resource for self-management, but it requires ethical frameworks, teacher training, and equitable access policies to maximize its potential
