Abstract

The world scientific community recognizes by consensus that in the definition of sustainable development, three dimensions should be distinguished: ecological, economic and social, starting from considering it as the sustainable management of ecosystems described through the state of their resources, their management, performance and sustainability: productivity, stability, resilience and equity. However, regardless of the fact that it is a topic of great strategic interest for all professionals and citizens due to its implication in national security and sustainability of Cuban society today, there is still insufficient scientific and technological knowledge related to sustainable energy development among professionals trained in Cuban universities. For this reason, the purpose of this article is to argue theoretically that sustainable energy development constitutes an urgent need for Cuban society, since it is necessary to socialize sufficient information to face this challenge. Basically, the theoretical method of documentary review was used, together with the analysis of different sources that allowed the theoretical systematization of the subject in question. For this reason, the work presented here is highly topical and relevant, since it exposes various criteria, challenges, perspectives and challenges for the achievement of sustainable energy development as a common objective to be reached in the current and complex energy context of today's Cuba.
