Periodization of the historical-pedagogical process of Catholic school education in Camagüey (1915-1961)

Abstract

The article is the result of a thesis; it is a task of the project historical-pedagogical knowledge of history teaching in Cuba and Latin America and the Caribbean, which is in turn in correspondence with the line of History of Education of the group of Professionalization of Educational Subjects of the Center for the Study of Education Sciences "Enrique José Varona" (CECEDUC) in Camagüey. The objective is to analyze the historical-pedagogical process of Catholic school education in Camagüey (1915-1961). The author assumes criteria to establish the periodization of Catholic school education (1915-1958), taking into account the foundations carried out in the Republic and in Camagüey such as: gender, social class to which the children belonged, skin color; order by dates of the foundations; representative local figures linked to the institutional history; religious congregations with educational purposes that had an impact on the city of Camagüey. These criteria can be used in other similar studies. The information that emanates from the knowledge of the historical-pedagogical processes, with which the memory of these schools is reconstructed is unpublished, from what was contributed by the written documents, the observation and the life experience of the graduates, new data are offered that enrich the history of education in the locality and in Cuba.
