The Honorary Chairs of the University of Guantánamo (Cuba) for the promotion of an environmental culture

Abstract

Cuba's environmental problems, particularly in Guantanamo, are conditioned by a difficult economic situation and characterized by the lack of awareness of social actors and the insufficient application of a policy that in practice integrates the environmental dimension into development processes. Therefore, a rational management based on the harmony between the conservation of the social conquests achieved and the sustainable protection of our natural resources is required. The Honorary Chairs of the University of Guantánamo have among their premises this work. Among their objectives, they encourage activities aimed at the preservation of the environment and the management of an environmental culture as a contribution to the civic education of the intra- and extra-university community, and to the Task Life program.
