Abstract

Genodermatoses are conditions whose main manifestations lie in the skin and its appendages, with a common element being their genetic condition. They require the use of great scientific and technological advances for their diagnosis and gene therapeutics. The evolution and prognosis is fatal in some patients and in the majority they evolve towards chronic disability, and patients experience stigmatization and social rejection, in addition to needing to adopt lifestyles that allow them to integrate socially. In Las Tunas, the records of the national program of diagnosis, care and prevention of genetic diseases and congenital defects in Cuba, show that a large percentage of patients diagnosed with genetic diseases correspond to genodermatosis. The objective of the study is to increase the knowledge about the epistemological foundations of the care process of patients with genodermatosis, with the purpose of improving its quality. With the analysis carried out, it was determined that the development of science in the field of dermatology and medical genetics should focus on research involving patients with genodermatosis and their social problems; to improve the national genetics program through a methodology that includes patient, family and society education, allowing their insertion in society and improving their quality of life. Knowing the epistemological foundations of the care process of these patients constitutes a necessary scientific support to face this process.
