Abstract

The influence of Karl Marx on historians, and not only on Marxist historians, is based on the general theory put forward by him, with his references and sketches of the general configuration of the historical development of mankind from the primitive communal groups to Capitalism, the appreciable richness of his concrete observations in relation to particular aspects, periods and problems of the past is discovered. It is not necessary to refer in great measure about these last ones, when they have been extremely influential, they are very stimulating and illuminating for their teaching, in this sense it will not be necessary to resort to the conviction of some connoisseur of the subject on the genius of Marx or of the range of knowledge and interests that he possessed; starting from this it must be of obligatory observation that many of his writings about particular aspects of the past inevitably reflect the historical knowledge available in his time. Taking these assumptions as a reference, we propose in this article to reflect on some aspects of the developmental debate that are necessarily relevant in the university context.
