Abstract

The introduction of information and communication technologies has conditioned important changes in the daily life of social actors. Performance in all areas of society is now made possible by the use of computer tools that streamline processes and make it possible, in times of health crises, to carry out operations, study, read and get information from the comfort of our homes. The educational environment has undergone major transformations in this regard. Following the path of social networks and virtual learning communities enhances the teaching and learning process in the virtual context. Referring to these aspects, this paper proposes a conceptual analysis of these terms that becomes a necessary interpretation in the current social context, where electronic devices and communication through them surpasses the traditional communicative interaction: face to face. Theoretical referents of the exposed subject matter allude to the need to promote the advantages of virtuality in the educational process. They leave aside the negative consequences derived from its excessive use, which does not diminish the transcendence of electronic tools for critical knowledge and rational thinking. These aspects are dealt with in this theoretical study.
