The following article refers to a topic of great interest to indigenous peoples. It aims to reflect, from a historical perspective, on how beliefs, traditions, evangelization, education, national and state economic policies, social organization and the family context of each ethnic group have influenced transculturation and insertion into Western culture. To this end, it is essential to pay attention to some aspects related to: the socio-cultural context, the process of social participation, oriented towards indigenous participation, from the perspective of intercultural education and the factors that cause school dropouts and social exclusion. On this basis, a theoretical construct is proposed that will make it possible to discern the participation of indigenous peoples in the country's social, economic and political processes through intercultural bilingual education. In line with this, a review of the literature on the subject is presented. The methodology of document review was used as an exploratory and analytical technique for the analysis of relevant information.
