Research on natural resources is vitally important, which is why a study of the soils in sugarcane areas of the Basic Cooperative Production Unit 'Arroyo Blanco' in the town of Cristino Naranjo, in the municipality of Cacocum, Holguín, Cuba, was carried out on a vertisol soil, where the chemical properties of the soil related to sugarcane cultivation were evaluated. All of this with the aim of analyzing effective strategies for the management, conservation, and sustainable use of soil in arid and semi-arid areas. Grids of 20 m² were set up, and for the measurements, a 50-meter measuring tape was used. Sixteen points per hectare and 48 points for the area were selected, with 4 samples per point, to analyze the plot of block 159, field 3, in order to determine the variability of the nutrients and the amounts of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, and organic matter in the soil. This allowed for recommending proper use and management of this type of soil in the unit. It also helped ensure the appropriate use of crops to be planted in these areas that adapt to this edaphoclimatic zone, resulting in satisfactory yields of the planted crop.
