Abstract

Sensemayá. Chamber music and poetry address the convergence between the Afro-Cuban lyrical work Sensemayá (chant to kill a snake) by Nicolás Guillén and the homonymous symphonic poem by Silvestre Revueltas, highlighting its value as an example of interdisciplinary dialogue between chamber music and poetry. The general objective is to analyze how both artistic expressions, from the intimacy of chamber performance to their universal projection, generate an aesthetic experience that transcends cultural and linguistic boundaries. To this end, a comparative and analytical method is employed, based on the review of literary and musical sources, as well as critical studies that allow identifying the rhythmic structures, stylistic devices, and the way each work reflects the cultural richness of its respective contexts. The main result shows that the synergy between word and sound in Sensemayá enhances the expressiveness of poetry through music and amplifies the rhythmic strength of the poetic discourse in the musical composition, consolidating a work of universal reach. The analysis demonstrates that Sensemayá constitutes a paradigm of interdisciplinary collaboration, capable of honoring the Afro-Cuban tradition and projecting its legacy to a global audience through the integration of chamber music and poetry.
