The role of political scientists and Political Science in the business sector

This paper examines the role of political science and its graduates in the business sector, a field traditionally unrelated to their professional practice. Based on an exploratory qualitative study that draws on semi-structured interviews with key private sector actors, human resources experts, and political scientists with corporate experience, the paper analyses the most valued competencies, the challenges of labor market insertion, and the emerging opportunities for these profiles in the corporate world. The findings reveal that, although barriers persist, such as limited awareness of the discipline and the absence of policies promoting the inclusion of graduates in companies, political scientists can offer a strategic perspective for managing complex contexts, anticipating scenarios and engaging with diverse stakeholders. For that reason, the study concludes that the integration of these professionals may represent a competitive advantage for organizations, while also reinforcing the need to rethink university curricula to better support their entry into the labor market.
