Evaluation of the tourism potential of the historic urban center of Bayamo.

Abstract

Tourism is an important socioeconomic activity for our country. Its close relationship with the territories where it is carried out is proof of its extraordinary influence on the local development that Cuba's cities are betting on. Through the modality of cultural tourism, it has spread throughout the nation's historic centers as a form of valorization and appreciation of the significant patrimonial resources they concentrate and preserve. In the present research, the tourist activity in the Urban Historical Center of Bayamo was analyzed in order to evaluate the local context in which it develops, its multiple tourist attractions and sites of interest, the generation of business by the workers of the non-state sector, who are linked to this activity, and its great potentialities for the promotion of tourism in a broader way, This made it possible to establish proposals for the organization of tourism in close relation to the conservation of the heritage values of the historic center, so that tourism can contribute benefits to the cultural, architectural and environmental sustainability of a city with more than 500 years of history.
