Abstract

Gender violence is an endemic evil of patriarchal culture globally, considered a problem of first magnitude deeply rooted in our society, which is exercised against women and girls of any age, in certain socioeconomic, political and cultural contexts. The municipality of Puerto Padre, Las Tunas, does not escape this reality, it was experienced in the period 2nd semester of 2019-1st semester of 2020 an increase in the different manifestations of violence, in particular the number of cases of victimized children and adolescents.Faced with this problem, a health promotion and prevention strategy was used, with an innovative approach to gender-based violence in urban areas. The participatory action research methodology was applied through a retrospective descriptive study, which combined a system of methods and techniques that allowed individualized and group work, as well as holistic diagnosis. Interviews were conducted with experts, victims and family members, a participant observation in the family environment and document analysis. The information obtained was processed qualitatively and quantitatively. The sample analyzed showed a high level of family dysfunction, a majority of female cases and lewd abuse as the main type of sexual abuse. An action plan was designed, with an intersectoral and multidisciplinary approach, monitored by the health sector, with an innovative approach that facilitated cooperative work with social interventions, to achieve greater equity in relations between women and men in urban areas.
