Hunger is a social problem that affects Mexico, with 4.2% of its population undernourished. This makes it evident that policies related to the achievement of food security, in this country, require research that takes into account the territorial particularities to contextualize them with objectivity and propose alternatives aimed at their local management. On this basis, the present research was developed in the period from July to December 2018, in the municipality of Malinalco, in the State of Mexico, which made possible the development of a food security strategy from a diagnosis, which included its evaluation at the local level and through the incorporation of the remaining stages of the planning process, up to the proposal of actions to implement and its control system. Empirical and theoretical methods and matrix analysis with social actors were also used. The results of the assessment of food security in the municipality revealed the existence of 18 main problems. The strategy developed constitutes a tool for the evaluation and projection with a strategic approach to local food security, as well as an alternative that contributes to the participation of the social actors involved in the management of this process and in strengthening the decision-making of the Government of Malinalco.
