Abstract

Knowledge management, a concept that emerged in the business field and whose essence consists of monitoring, classifying and using knowledge to achieve favorable results in communities and other scenarios, is today of vital importance in the field of social sciences, especially for the social studies of science and technology. Knowledge management contributes to the identification and classification of different kinds of knowledge, from scientific knowledge to the knowledge provided by the common practice of dissimilar people, and which are part of an inherited cognitive arsenal. Their integration and use allows the innovative solution of some of the problems presented by the communities. The role of social actors in the management of relevant knowledge and their encounter with community leaders and institutions that accompany the government in the local development process is transcendental. It is important to note that, although management is valid for all communities, it is necessary to take into account the particularities that emanate from their contexts.
